What is SEO/Search Engine Optimization?
Search Engine Optimization or for short SEO is a process of affecting the visibility of a web page in a search engine's "unpaid" results. Unpaid results is often referred to as "natural", "organic", or "earned" results. What this means is that you did not pay for visitors you earned those visitors by having an awesome website with high rankings. All of the major search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, and Ask have primary search results, where web content is shown in relevance to the searcher.
For example:
You run a Google search for "What is SEO" all sites/blogs with the keyword phrase "What is SEO" will show up.
Search Engines rank each page based on content, SEO, and relevance. The higher the ranking the higher you show in search results. That is, say you run the same Google search as before those results that show on the first couple of pages are the highest in ranking with Google and Googles SEO Standards.

How Google Ranks Web pages
Web pages that have been created with authority are ranked at the top with Google. This means writing content that people find useful is often on blogs, twitter feeds, facebook, etc, over time Google will pick up on these authority signals. Using this circle will create strong and sustainable Google Rankings something all web pages strive for.
3 Helpful Tips to Getting Better Rankings
1. Write amazing content that is useful and uses keyword phrases. Content should be unique without plagiarism and free of grammar errors. People do not want to read something that sounds like a text message. Visitors want something unique, eye catching, and easy to read. Stay away from long winded pages meaning no need for 2000 plus words on a page.
2. Make it easy to share. All content should be easy for visitors to share. Have some share buttons on your page for Social Media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc. People love to share content that they enjoyed make it easy for them to do that. It will make a big difference in your rankings.
3. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat!
Linking your Content on Other Sites
I cannot stress enough importance on this topic, but do not confuse quality with quantity here. It is not about the quantity it is more about the quality. You want to secure natural links from quality relevant web pages. What this means is that someone else has "back-linked" your content on their site. That is if you go to their site there is a link to click over to your website. These links are very helpful and a must for great rankings. Great sites will not link poor quality content that is why you must have great content to receive back-links.
In conclusion, SEO is one of the most challenging aspects to learn for web development. It is difficult to come across the right person that can create SEO content for websites, but when you do grab them! Every website deserves to have great content and great rankings. Do not let the fear of SEO hold you back from succeeding.
